While scuba diving is popular across Florida, cave and
cavern diving is unique to North Central Florida in North
America. Certified divers enjoy exploring the subterranean
sights hidden within the caverns and caves of Florida's
springs, from 130 feet to thousands of yards below the
surface. Although both are forms of overhead environment
diving, cave and cavern diving differ slightly. In cavern
diving, divers remain in sight of their entrance, allowing
emergency swimming ascents. Cave diving is done further below
the surface and divers are unable to see their entrance. Each
form guarantees spectacular underwater beauty and adventure,
but gives divers the
added
responsibility to protect these
fragile environments
by using special techniques and equipment. Select any of the
links
below for more information on individual springs.
Trading freshwater for saltwater, divers can take the plunge
in the Gulf of Mexico by hiring local Captains for an
unforgettable diving or spear fishing excursion. Several dive
shops in the area offer services and supplies
that support local dive activities.
